G Treble Flute

The G treble flute has a three octave range form g1 - g4.

The G treble flute is the most important instrument in a flute band. With its high, audible pitch, it is usually given the responsibility of playing the melody. However, due to the problems with the scale of the instrument, the G treble can suffer from problems of intonation when played. There are usually three different parts written for the treble flute in flute band arrangements. These include solo, 1st and 2nd treble parts, with the solo part being the most difficult. The G treble flute is a transposing instrument and sounds a fourth lower than it is actually written. The treble flutes played in Ballyclare Victoria Flute Band were all handmade by William Simmons, a flute maker in Liverpool.
